ABOUT US

Holocaust education contributing to a cohesive, diverse, harmonious WA community

holocaust institute of western australia

Our Story:

The Holocaust Institute of Western Australia was established in 1990 by the Council of WA Jewry to combat misinformation about the Holocaust and to keep alive the memory of those who perished in the Holocaust.

What We Do:

The Holocaust Institute of WA is a not-for-profit organisation which educates society about the Holocaust and the dangers of discrimination and intolerance. It is an active and recognised institution which is dedicated to combating racism, hatred and prejudice by fostering tolerance and understanding through education.

Education:

The Institute offers a diverse and engaging range of educational programs and workshops for high school students as well as professional training for a variety of industries. Programs and workshops educate and promote awareness on the lessons of the Holocaust, its history and relevance today. Challenging perceptions of morality, social justice and human rights, our programs inspire participants to action.

COURAGE TO CARE WA

“Courage to Care WA” is a subsidiary of the Holocaust Institute of WA. It is a community outreach initiative that offers an education program that transforms bystander behaviour by using the Holocaust as a medium to explore racism, prejudice, discrimination and bullying, and to highlight the acts of Upstanders, the ‘Righteous Among the Nations’ (those who risked their own lives to save others) and the heroes of other genocides whose courage saved lives.

By highlighting the importance of standing up to bullying and prejudice whenever it occurs, “Courage to Care” empowers and inspires students to take positive action, to be Upstanders rather than bystanders to discrimination in all forms.

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
